When Does Tonomo Create a Job, and When Is It Due?
Last updated: September 28, 2026
Tonomo creates a job automatically when an order includes at least one service linked to an enabled job template. It creates one job per template, per shoot, at the auto-creation time set on the template, and sets the due date by counting from that shoot. The job only covers the order's services that match the template. If a shoot moves or is cancelled before its job exists, Tonomo moves or drops the job to match. Jobs that already exist are never changed automatically.
At a glance
Trigger: an order includes a service linked to an enabled job template.
How many: one job per matching template, per shoot date on the order.
When: at the template's auto-creation time, for example, 1 hour after the appointment.
Due date: counted from the shoot, using the template's due date rule. Business days skip weekends.
Priority: automatically created jobs are Medium priority.
Moved or cancelled shoots: jobs not yet created follow the change. Existing jobs are never changed or deleted automatically.
Template edits: you choose whether pending jobs are updated too.
When does an order get a job?
An order gets a job from a template when all of these are true:
The template is enabled (not disabled, not archived).
The order includes at least one of the template's linked services.
The order has a shoot (appointment) scheduled.
The job's services are only the ones the order and the template share. For example, if a Photo Editing template is linked to Home Photos and Twilight Photos, and an order books Home Photos and a Highlight Video, the job covers Home Photos only.
When exactly is the job created?
It depends on the template's Set job auto creation time:
Option | When the job is created |
|---|---|
Immediately after the appointment | The system creates the job as soon as the shoot happens on its scheduled day. |
X time after the appointment | A set time after the shoot, from 1 minute to 23 hours 59 minutes (the default is 1 hour) |
At a specific time on the appointment day | At the time you choose, on the day of the shoot (recommended) |
Shoots booked months ahead still get their jobs on time. Tonomo checks every day for jobs that are coming due to be created.
What if an order has more than one shoot?
Each shoot gets its own job from each matching template. An order with a daytime shoot and a separate twilight shoot can have two Photo Editing jobs, each with a due date counted from its own shoot.
What happens if a shoot is rescheduled or cancelled?
Before the job is created: Tonomo keeps up with the order.
Shoot moved: the job is created at the new time, and its due date is counted from the new shoot date.
Shoot cancelled, order cancelled or deleted, or services removed: the pending job is dropped and never created.
Service added that matches a template: a job is scheduled for it.
After the job is created: it's left alone. Once a job exists, it belongs to whoever is working on it, so Tonomo won't change its due date or delete it. Update it yourself if you need to, or archive it.
How is the due date worked out?
From the shoot's date and time, using the template's Due Date rule:
Rule | Example (shoot Thursday 10:00 AM) |
|---|---|
Due immediately | Thursday 10:00 AM |
2 business days after appointment | Monday 10:00 AM (skips Sat and Sun) |
1 business day after appointment, at 6:00 PM | Friday 6:00 PM |
2 calendar days after appointment | Saturday 10:00 AM |
1 calendar day after appointment, at 6:00 PM | Friday 6:00 PM |
You can change any job's due date later, from the job list or the job's details page.
For jobs created by hand, the due date is counted from the order's shoot that's closest to today, past or future.
What happens when I edit a template?
Jobs not created yet always follow the new settings, including a changed auto-creation time or service list.
Pending jobs: when you save, Tonomo asks how to apply the changes:
Pending + new jobs: updates all pending jobs from this template, and applies the changes to new jobs going forward.
New jobs only: leaves existing jobs unchanged and applies the changes to new jobs only.
Jobs in Progress, Reviewing, or Completed are never changed by a template edit.
When pending jobs are updated, they take the template's new editors, reviewers, and due date rule, with the due date recalculated from each job's shoot.

What happens when I disable a template?
It stops creating jobs. Jobs scheduled but not yet created won't be created. Existing jobs are left as they are. Turn the template back on to start again.
Will Tonomo create jobs for old orders?
Not for shoots that finished long ago. Completing or archiving an old order won't suddenly create jobs for it. A shoot from the last day or so still gets its job.
Frequently asked questions
I enabled a template. Will existing orders get jobs? Upcoming shoots on existing orders do, if their services match. Tonomo schedules their jobs at the template's auto-creation time.
I turned on auto-creation for a template I'd been using by hand. Will orders get duplicate jobs? No. Tonomo skips orders that already have a job from that template.
Why does the job list show old order details for a moment? The job list can take a few moments to catch up after an order is edited. The job's details page always shows the current order.
Can I change a job's priority? Yes
